“Make This Your Common Practice… Pray for each another so that you can live together whole and healed”

James 5:16

It was a joy and comfort to be together again as we kicked off the new church year last weekend.  Something special happens when we worship and are fed together at the communion table; when we hug, cry, and laugh together; when we celebrate together in the sunshine.  The church is called the Body of Christ, and each of us members of it, and we find a healing, strength, and comfort unlike any other when we gather, re-united in Christ.

We will share additional information soon, but Pastor Megan has arranged two special times in the coming week to gather and heal.  On Thursday Sept. 19; and Sunday, Sept. 22, Riverside Community Care’s Trauma Center will lead Coping Groups, guiding us through a highly supportive and structured session designed to thoughtfully and sensitively process the recent loss in our community. The goal of the group is to provide support as well as a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space to reflect on how each individual, and our community, can begin to work toward healing — and support each other in that process.  They have asked attendees to RSVP so that we can make sure the groups are an appropriate size.  Please email Pastor Megan or me if you would like to join either group.

We will also be praying for one another in a special way throughout the month with a new “take a prayer; leave a prayer” prayer station in our sanctuary (see the flyer and description in the side bar).  If you won’t be in the sanctuary in person, but would like to participate, please share your prayers with either Pastor Megan or me, and we will add them, and share community prayers with you.  May we, connected, find a new wholeness and healing this year together.

With the love of Christ Jesus,
Pastor Amy

On Thursday, July 18, travelers and members of UCW gathered to share learnings, photos, and stories from our recent service trip to Puerto Rico.  The trip at the end of June was transformative for the 20 members (mostly high school and college youth) who travelled.  Learn More

Beloved, have you gotten and decorated a Flat Jesus yet? Be sure to take part in this fun and creative way of staying in touch with one another throughout the summer, and of sharing with one another as the new church year begins in September. Learn More

I was away from church last Sunday for a triathlon – my first race in about 12 years – and I felt as though I’d been transported to the Kingdom of God for the morning. I had forgotten how energizing the warmth and collegiality that surrounds a race can be. Learn More

From the first silver dollar communion pancake hitting the griddle to the last conversations over evening clean-up, it was a good and pleasant day, made all the more so by how many beloved people of God came together for it. Learn More

May 3, 2024 We are delighted to celebrate the pastoral installation of Reverend Megan Berkowitz this Sunday, May 5, at 3:oo p.m. in the UCW Sanctuary. We have been on a wonderful journey which began in February 2022 with the Transition Team and their work to identify who UCW is now, who is our neighbor, and who is God calling us to be. Learn More

This week, I am on a professional development trip to Chicago, studying congregation vitality and spending time with other pastors from throughout the country. We are learning from non-traditional church settings, but the lessons these settings teach are ones that all communities can benefit from: how vital congregations remain focused on their “why,” rooted deeply in their shared faith.
