On October 23, 2016, we were honored to have Ala’a El-Shaar and Dr. Abdulfatah Elshaar speak on behalf of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). SAMS was founded in 2007 prior to the 2011 Syrian crisis. The “facts and figures” are staggering: 3,822,161 Syrian refugees, 12.2 million in need of assistance inside Syria, 7.6 million internally displaced persons, and over 3 million seeking refuge in the surrounding countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. The stories heard highlighted the destruction of homes, families, minds and hearts. SAMS volunteer physicians and others have treated 2.6 million patients, established 106 medical facilities and has shipped 207 containers of medical aid and equipment. 24,318 babies have been delivered, over 25,000 benefited from psychosocial care and 92,261 patients have been served by mobile clinics. These “facts” only scratch the surface of the efforts of this organization
We are invited to Boston Songs for Syria- A Concert for Humanitarian Relief to be held on November 13, 2016 at Old South Church, 645 Boylston Street, Boston, 3:00PM- 5:00PM. Admission is free.
